Finishes - samples and care instructions

Ms - Solid brass polished, lacquered.

Polished brass is protected from environmental influences with a clear coating. Even after baking, this lacquer will only be as hard and abrasion-resistant as a paint, i.e., it will be susceptible to scratching.

The surface should merely be wiped off gently with a soft cloth. Possibly moisten the cloth with a little warm water. Ideal would be to breathe on the object.

Mt  Solid brass matt brushed, lacquered

This surface - like the Ms surface - is protected from environmental influences with a clear coating. Even after baking, this lacquer will only be as hard and abrasion-resistant as a paint, i.e., it will be susceptible to scratching.

The surface should merely be wiped off gently with a soft cloth. Possibly moisten the cloth with a little warm water. Ideal would be to breathe on the surface.

Ni Solid brass, nickel plated

The polished brass of this surface is electroplated with a coating of pure nickel.

Nickel serves to protect against environmental influences and lends the brass a silvery look. Under unfavourable conditions, however, nickel may be subject to certain corrosive influences. Depending on where you live, we recommend using a silver-polishing cloth once or twice a year. But commercial metal polish also works wonders even years later.

Nm  Solid brass nickel plated, matt brushed

This surface is plated with matt nickel. If necessary, the stainless steel-like appearance can be restored by rubbing down the surface with a silver-polishing cloth.

Minor spots can be removed with a glass cleaner. In difficult cases wit recommend adding a small amount of metal cleaner to the cleaning solution.

Special finishes

On request, these special finishes are available for most of our models:

Cr - Solid brass, chrome-plated

This is the most durable and most low-maintenance of our finishes. The polished brass of the lamp is first electroplated with a coating of pure nickel, and then with a layer of chrome.

Compared to the nickel finish, the chrome-plated surface has a slightly blueish hue. Also, it is highly resistant to corrosion und does not tarnish even after years of use.

Br - Solid brass, bronzed, lacquered

This surface requires a lot of time and craftsmanship as it requires brushing the brass very carefully and submerging it in a special bath several times. Then the surface has to be wiped by hand to get the intended intensity of the colouring. After the lamp has been carefully dried and the bronze finish has hardened, a colourless lacquer is applied.

Like all the lacquered surfaces, the bronze finish should only be treated with a soft cloth. Possibly moisten the cloth with a little warm water. Ideal would be to breathe on the object.

Bd - Solid brass, dark-bronzed, lacquered

Like for the bronze finish, the brass is brushed very carefully and then submerged several times in a special bath. Additional cycles are need to attain the darker colouring.
